Vision ScreeningAutomated Vision AssessmentThe PediaVision® solution assists in ensuring children are vision-ready for life and learning. The detection of refractive errors, amblyopia, strabismus, anisocoria and media opacities through automated vision screening is easily integrated into a physician’s practice or in public screening forums:
Comprehensive vision screening is an important addition to any size practice. The decision to install is made easy with several pricing options, some of which require no capital investment. PediaVision® is your partner in vision, one of the steps taken includes the creation of our Medical Advisory Board (MAB). This MAB is made up of leading doctors of pediatric ophthalmology, ophthalmology, optometry and pediatrics to continuously validate our solutions, services and answer medically related questions that are frequently asked. Approved studies through organizations such as the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) validate vision screening solutions. Recent papers released at AAPOS confirm the viability of the PediaVision® Assessment Solution “PAS” (link to studies PDF). Government legislation and lobbying by various organizations to drive new legislation is an important factor for building awareness of vision issues. Press and ongoing debates on this topic have fed the awareness of vision screening in the marketplace. One out of every four school-aged children suffers from vision problems, a staggering 7.7 million children between the ages of 0-11. Many of these children have problems such as lazy eye (amblyopia) or eyes that are either crossed or turned outward (strabismus). This may cause irreversible impairment or blindness if not treated early, usually by age 5. Improvement is rare if not treated by the age of 8 or 9. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, amblyopia is the leading cause of childhood blindness. It is poor vision in an otherwise normal-appearing eye that occurs when the brain does not recognize the sight from that eye. Strabismus, one of the most common causes of amblyopia, is the misalignment of the eyes in any direction. If early detection of amblyopia secondary to strabismus is followed by effective treatment, then excellent vision may be restored. The eyes can be aligned in some cases with patching or glasses and in others with surgery. However, restoration of good alignment does not assure elimination of amblyopia. |
